Meet Requirements
Meets are offered 2-3 times per month. It is up to the swimmers to select their events. Competitions start in mid October and, depending on the level of the swimmer, can continue into early April. Most meets are in the Detroit metro area. Other meets are available that would entail some travel. The only meets required for YPAC swimmers are Dual meets, the YPAC Invitational and Championship meets.
Each swimmer is required to compete in a minimum of three YMCA meets to qualify to swim in a YMCA championship meet. Swimmers are highly encouraged to swim in more meets than the minimum three required.
Age Determination for Meets
YMCA swimming uses the age of the swimmer on December 1 of the current swim season to determine their age group for YMCA competition. In USA meets, a swimmer swims in the age group of their actual age on the first day of the USA meet.
Time Standards
A Time Standard card will be given to each swimmer at a goal setting session. YMCA, USA, high school and middle school times can all be used to meet a qualifying time standard. Times achieved from a meet other than a YPAC meet will need a proof of the time. Acceptable proofs are Hy-Tek meet results or meet results with an official’s signature.
Relays
Coaches will determine relays for all meets
- “A” relays will be the swimmers with the fastest times in each age group
- “B” and other relays will be swimmers with the next fastest times factoring in attendance and work ethic
Swimmers participate in relays at the Head Coach’s discretion.
