Types of Meets

YMCA SWIM MEETS

Each swimmer is required to compete in a minimum of three YMCA meets to qualify to swim in a YMCA championship meet.

YMCA Dual Meets

Dual meets are composed of two YMCA teams competing against each other. The team with the most points wins the competition. Dual meets take place in one morning or afternoon. The events the swimmer will compete in are chosen by the coaches. Swimmers are required to attend. If a swimmer will be unable to attend, the “no show” sheet must be signed or the Head Coach emailed by the posted deadline. The “no show” sheet will be posted on the bulletin board across from the pool at the South Oakland YMCA.

YMCA Invitational Meets

Invitational meets include many YMCA teams. The host team chooses the events it would like to offer. There are not any minimum time standards to participate. The swimmer chooses their events.

YMCA Eastern Michigan Cluster Championship Meet

All YPAC swimmers are encouraged to participate in this meet. YMCA teams from all over Eastern Michigan compete. There are no qualifying times, however; it is the last opportunity to make a state qualifying time. Swimmers choose their own events.

YMCA 8 and Under State Meet

This meet is for all 8 and Under swimmers. There are no qualifying times for this meet. Many of the events allow swimmers to compete only against swimmers that are the same age. This is a fun meet and a great way to end the season!

YMCA State Championship Meet

ALL YPAC swimmers are required to attend if they have qualified. A qualifying time for each event for swimmers must be met in order to participate in this meet. Qualifying swimmers will be swimming against the best swimmers in the state.

YMCA B Cluster Championship Meet

For those swimmers who do not receive a qualifying time for the State Meet, there is a B-Cluster meet at the end of the season. This is a popular meet that allows all swimmers to participate in a championship meet.

YMCA Zone Championship Meet

All YPAC simmers are required to attend if they have qualified. A qualifying time for each event for swimmers must be met in order to participate in the Zone meet. Qualifying swimmers will be swimming against the best swimmers from the YMCA Great Lakes Zone, representing five states.

YMCA of the USA National Championship Meet

All YPAC swimmers are required to attend if they have qualified. This meet is for swimmers 12 years and up who have met the qualifying time standard. Swimmers will swim against other YMCA teams from all over the nation. This is a very fast, highly competitive four day meet.

USA Meets

USA meets are in addition to the YMCA meets and are not replacements for the YMCA meets for championship eligibility. Time from a USA meet can be used for YMCA state, zone and national qualifications. USA Swimming has time standards for each event in each age group. Participation in USA meets is limited to swimmers who have achieved the corresponding time standard. This means swimmers that have achieved those time standards may enter. YMCA times can be used to qualify.

USA A, B, C Meets

A, B, C designations are often associated with USA meets. USA meets may be A only, A/B, A/B/C, or any combination based on the choice of the host team. USA meets are in addition to the YMCA meets and are not replacements for the YMCA meets for championship eligibility.
